After having tested our stallions last year for insemination we decided to offer insemination at the farms in the area along with our vet Guðrún Margrét Sigurðardóttir. As well as daily shipping out chilled semen to the breeding station of Ingunn Reynisdóttir at Syðri-vellir.
We also shipped semen all over Iceland, to the east to the south and to the west.
The advantage of sending semen directly to the farms with the vet is that the mares don´t need to travel with their new born foals. That would be less stressful and lower risk of injury for both. It is a bit lower cost as well as you keep the mare at home and do some of the work yourself.
At the bigger studs they offer a full service which is also very convenient you just deliver your mare and pick her up pregnant!
