IS2013258161 - Svarfdæla frá Þúfum

Svarfdæla is out of our honorary mare and Landsmóts winner Píla frá Syðra-Garðshorni and the magnificent breeding stallion Stjörnustæll frá Dalvík. Stjörnustæll won the Icelandic championship in Fivegait 2014 with Mette before he left Iceland and participated in the World Championship a year later. As well as being a successful competition horse he also bred really good horses for us. We are happy to have two of his daughters in breeding as well as the stallion Hannibal.

Píla won the five year old class at Landsmót 2008 and whent straight to breeding. She gave us five stallions before Svarfdæla was born. We had almost lost hope that she would have mares. And what a mare we got! Svarfdæla is a real gem. Beautiful, gengtle, supple with a super tölt.

As a young horse, Svarfdæla was one of the young horses people always asked about. She had such a beautifull posture and presence with long legs and a long and arched neck. Her movements was always with a lot of expression. She first showed a lot of tölt and pace with high action, but when she became three years old she started to choose mainly trot and canter.

Svarfdæla was calm and easy to start and you could feel she had some temperament but no fear. Her movements were amazing. So soft and bouchy. Like walking on a cloud. She did need some time to manage to keep her topline up and become straight enough to get the gaits working well. But once she had the strength and technique she became totaly uncomplicated and easy to ride.

Svarfdæla was shown in breeding at Landsmót as a six-year-old as a fourgaiter even though we had trained some pace earlyer that spring. It turned into tölt just before the show so we stuck to showing her as a four-gaiter. The pace-training was good for the speed in tölt. She recived a very good judgement with 9,5 for slöw tölt and 9 for tölt cooperativeness and general impression.

The same summer and the summer after we took her to the yearly weeklong riding-trip with friends, where we ride with a herd. A week riding over highlands. I can tell you she is the perfect riding-horse. Soooo supple and easy to ride. Clear tölt in selfcarriage fore miles! No matter if you are on a road or off road, in front of the herd or behind the herd.

With further training Svarfdæla would be super for competitions. And, actually, I think you could choose four or fivegait and also she would be super for töltcompetition as T1 or T2. What we think and hope we will get from Svarfdæla: Good looking, supple tölters. Naturally gaited and with this springy front part that enables the hind legs to engage when strong enough, long supple strides in trott. Gentle temperament that allows everyone to ride and in every situation.
