Stjörnuspá is out of our honorary mare Lýsing frá Þúfum and the magnificent breeding stallion Stjörnustæll frá Dalvík. Stjörnustæll won the Icelandic championship in Fivegait 2014 with Mette before he left Iceland and participated in the World Championship a year later. As well as being a successful competition horse he also bred really good horses for us. We are happy to have two of his daughters in breeding as well as the stallion Hannibal.

As a young horse, Stjörnuspá had the type of gaits that made you excited about her. She would go mostly a supple pacy tölt and canter, always with a long high stride bot no trot. Like her father, Stjörnustæll, she had the habit of carrying her head and neck low running around on her own. But from time to time, in the right situations, she would change and show what kind of great tölt she was able to do. In our experience, this type of gait can often develop into the best horses.

Stjörnuspá was easy and calm to train from the start, but not dull. She was sensitive to touch, not being afraid of touching, rather didn´t like unnecessary interference. She would chew on the bit and choose to go low and round, and with time she learned to balance better and better, becoming stronger and more and more uphill. Then the strong topline came in handy and made her uncomplicated to ride. As long as you had her longitudinal balance and suppleness and was able to lengthen her neck. She had this very bouncy tölt with long strides, free shoulders, and forward-reaching movement. The slow tölt was so much fun to ride, she would just dance and you felt you didn’t have to do a thing. Stjörnuspá would suit very well for competitions, but we decided to breed instead. You would need two to three years more to really know what kind of a competition horse she could be, and we thought we had the information we needed.

Stjörnuspá was shown at Landsmót as a five-year-old as a fivegaiter, but the last time she was shown 7 years old the pace had developed more towards tölt so we showed her as a fourgaiter. It is not her highest judgement in total, but she received 9.0 for tölt, trot, canter and general impression. And 9.5 for cooperation and slow tölt. Probably her offspring will be very “gaited” and you can choose to train them as four- or fivegaiters in most cases.

What we think and hope we will get from Stjörnuspá is: Good looking horses with strong legs and hoofs. Naturally gaited and with this springy front part that enables the hind legs to engage when strong enough. Nice and friendly temperament that starts calm and develops power over time. We will look for stallions for her with a broad back, and good suspension in trot and canter would also be a plus.

Stjörnuspá became this very cuddly horse that loved being touched! She will rest her head in your arms and close her eyes as often as she can. It is the best feeling to meet Stjörnuspá in the herd.
