IS2009258160 - Hryðja frá Þúfum

It was always our dream to get a marefoal from Lygna og Hróður, our two major breeding paragons. Finally, Hryðja was born in 2009. She unfortunately got injured a lot as a young horse, mostly got kicked by other horses, nothing serious but just very often. That unfortunately, delayed her training quite a lot.

Hryðja has a happy and mild temperament, like she always anticipates good things to happen. Her way of moving is very springy and light. She inherited the very clear-beated gaits from Lygna and the springy and well-balanced canter from Hróður.

She became quite a training experiment for Mette and was for example taught how to tölt without a bridle. Also, after Hryðja got a good balance in tölt she was not ridden in trot, only walk, tölt and canter. As she was ridden a lot as a working-horse, such as herding horses and sheep, we used the canter mostly. Trot was always good when asked for, as she received 9 for trot in breeding evaluation.

As a competition horse she was very successful for many years. Her main venue was T2, tölt on loose reins, for example she was in A-finals at the Icelandic Championship in 2017. She also competed in four-gait there with good results. Hryðja also took part in in Gæðingakeppni at Landsmót 2016. Her best result in B-flokkur was 8.70.

We are very excited to see what this very original Þúfur-bred mare will give us but her oldest offspring comes in to training in the fall of 2023.
